FAQ

Location

Your clinic is far from where I live. Do you work with out of state patients?

Over 75% of our patients come to us from out of state or from other nations seeking reversal of their chronic diseases and the restoration of their vitality. After the initial evaluation at our clinic, we work with out of state/international patients by phone, email and video consults.

Treatment

Does the Goldberg Tener Clinic treat....

For over forty years, the Goldberg Tener Clinic has successfully worked with patients with the conditions below and many other medical diagnoses. This is done by addressing causes and creating the right conditions to restore the patient back to good health and a high level of vitality, often after years of unnecessary suffering and futile treatments.  Programs developed at the Goldberg Tener Clinic address the factors in each patient that are causing the symptoms of their problems to occur rather than to treat the symptoms themselves. As our clients improve, they have the opportunity to experience relief of their discomforts and enjoy improved health with greater resistance from disease.

Do patients with the same health condition get the same program?

The Goldberg Tener Clinic is focused on the individual and the reasons why they became ill. Having determined the causes of their illness, steps are taken to address and reverse their disease. Treating the patient based on their disease name alone fails to address the causes of the problem and thus fails to provide the opportunity to restore long term, reliable health.

The program of care, therefore, at the Goldberg Tener Clinic is individualized to the patient, not the name of the disease they were labeled with.

Do you prescribe alternative treatments?

We are not only a drug-less practice, but we also avoid “alternative treatments” such as herbs, homeopathic remedies and other materials that are intended to “treat” disease symptoms.  These materials may be less toxic than drugs but the rationale behind them is the same… the treatment of symptoms rather than the removal of causes and the restoration of optimal body function.

Do you use supplements with your patients?

Supplementation is employed on a case-by-case basis according to the individual needs of the patient. Nutritional supplementation is employed on a limited basis but is not the primary focus of our practice nor do we believe it should be.

Testing

What kind of laboratory testing do you employ at your clinic?

At the Goldberg Tener Clinic, advanced functional testing is employed to help determine the causal factors that have contributed to the patient’s chronic health problems. The clinic conducts studies specific to the patient, to help reveal the parameters of how their body is functioning. These studies help uncover problems related to diet, digestion, absorption, assimilation, cellular excretion, elimination and cover the general areas of functional gastroenterology, immunology, endocrinology, microbiology and toxicology.

Laboratory work is specific to the patient’s individual needs and is performed to insure that the appropriate functional information is obtained.

Practical patient education based on the laboratory studies that the client can put to use to regain their health is a priority.

How is testing at the Goldberg Tener Clinic different from testing I've already had done medically?

Standard medical testing is employed to name a patient’s signs and symptoms. This gives the Physician a diagnostic title with which to prescribe drugs and file insurance.

Functional laboratory testing as employed at The Goldberg Tener Clinic is designed to assist in uncovering the causes of the patient’s problems and to monitor their progress as you undergo an individualized health reform program.

Dr. Goldberg has over forty years of experience in utilizing functional lab testing and has served as a consultant for leading functional laboratories. You can be assured that at the Goldberg Tener Clinic only the appropriate tests will be recommended and that the results will be expertly interpreted and employed in a manner to assist you along the path of health restoration. We recognize that laboratory testing does not replace the need for clinical experience and giving you the time and attention needed.  You will be educated as to what each functional lab test means and how it will be applied to help restore you to good health.

How is lab testing performed at the Goldberg Tener Clinic?

At the end of your initial visit, Dr. Goldberg and/or Dr. Tener will discuss with you what laboratory tests are appropriate in your case. The types of functional lab tests employed are specific to our clinic and the test results are interpreted according to our specifications via a Nutritional, Biological Perspective.

Costs, Fees and Insurance

What are the costs?

A patient’s costs are dependent on their physical condition and goals. We always explain all costs to patients and obtain their approval prior to conducting any service or procedure to make sure they are comfortable with the costs that are incurred.

Any concern for the cost of your care must take into account what you are losing by staying sick. The cost of living with chronic illness is not only money, but time lost from a person’s life and the quality of that life.

For further information on costs please call our office at (770) 974-7470.

Does insurance cover services performed at The Goldberg Tener Clinic?

Our office will supply you with the necessary forms to file. The level of reimbursement you receive depends on your insurance policy. Insurance matters are between you and your insurance carrier.

Fasting

Is fasting offered at the Goldberg Tener Clinic?

A small portion of our patients will fast while others will follow other types of programs. Each case is different. Fasting is not appropriate for everybody. Other forms of detoxification are employed with patients according to their needs.

What qualifies Dr. Goldberg to supervise a fast?

Dr. Goldberg is a Certified Member of the International Association of Hygienic Physicians of whom there are less than 25 members in the United States. This organization certifies doctors in fasting and the hygienic care of patients. As a Professor of Clinical Nutrition, Functional Gastroenterology and Functional Rheumatology, Dr. Goldberg has taught University Students and Physicians for over 37 years on the Physiology and clinical application of Fasting.

Experience.

Early in his career in the 1970’s, Dr. Goldberg worked at a Hygienic Institute, first as a resident and later as the Director. Here he learned and gained extensive experience in how to properly conduct a fast along with other Hygienic Applications. He was involved on a day-by-day basis in the fasting supervision of over 1,500 resident guests during his tenure there.

Dr. Goldberg was trained by Dr. R.J. Cheatham, a renowned Hygienist, at the Shangri La Hygiene Institute in Florida where he later was appointed Health Director. Since that time, Dr. Goldberg has supervised fasting and detoxification procedures with over 10,000 additional patients in his own clinic with a wide variety of health problems.

Dr. Goldberg also completed a Fasting Internship under famed Hygienic Practitioner Dr. William Esser of Esser’s Hygienic Rest Ranch in Lake Worth, Florida. Dr. Esser, who passed away at the age of 94, was a co-founder of the American Natural Hygiene Association. Dr. Esser supervised over 40,000 fasts over 60 years of practice.

Clinical Fasting is not part of the curriculum at any medical college, graduate school, or other professional school in the United States. It is only through experience and internship that these skills are acquired.

Is it safe to fast?

Fasting is a a restorative measure that has been performed for as long as life itself. Instinctively, when a child or animal is sick, they stop eating. Man is the sole being that eats based on psychological appetite rather than physiological need. Overeating is one of the single greatest reasons for diseases.

Fasting is safe and effective if done properly and under expert supervision. Fasting must be supervised every step of the way. We do not recommend fasting without experienced supervision.

Do you put some of your patients on a juice or liquid diet?

The Goldberg Tener Clinic offers a number of different options in providing physiological rest and detoxification to patients and is highly experienced in doing so.

What to Expect

Do I need to bring anything to my first appointment?

Please bring copies of any recent lab work and/or the reports for any medical procedures performed over the past 3-4 months.  Patients are encouraged to write a brief medical history covering the events that have occurred since the onset of their condition as well as any medical treatments they have undergone during that time.

How is an evaluation conducted?

Each patient will undergo the following evaluations:

  1. A thorough Case History
  2. A Physical Examination tailored to the condition and needs of the patient
  3. Appropriate Laboratory Testing: The laboratory testing we employ is functionally oriented. This means that it is used to assess the efficiency of the body systems and the body as a whole. We do not use laboratory testing to merely arrive at a name for symptoms as is commonly done medically. Testing is performed to assess the current status of the body and to better understand the unique biochemical make-up of each patient.

The initial visit generally takes about 1-2 hours. The Goldberg Tener Clinic strongly believes in the importance of the individual and therefore allots a generous amount of time with and for each patient.

What happens after my initial visit?

A ‘Report of Findings’ will be scheduled approximately 2-3 weeks after the initial visit to allow for the processing of test results. The Doctors will review your test results and construct an individualized plan based upon your findings. Be ready to roll up your sleeves and get to work!

Many patients will begin with a short period of detoxification involving a limited dietary, liquid diet, or a short fasting period. In some cases a detoxification period will be employed at a later date after other immediate concerns are addressed. Your lifestyle habits will be carefully considered and steps taken to optimize the renewal of your energy. Many patients feel a significant improvement by the end of this stage.

How often will I need to come back for follow up appointments?

The frequency of follow-up visits varies from patient to patient.  As you progress it is essential to make periodic changes.  At follow up visits you will be examined and interviewed  to determine what steps need to be altered to insure ongoing progress. As required, abnormal functional lab tests may be repeated and/or programs altered to insure the continuation of your progress.

Out of state patients employing email consultations return to our clinic for a re-examination at the second month mark to ensure ongoing progress in their condition.

How long will it take for me to get better?

The length of time required for recovery depends on a number of factors, including:

  1. How long the patient has been ill
  2. The severity of the condition
  3. The patient’s age
  4. The amount of effort the patient puts into his/her recovery program

It takes time to reverse chronic health problems. The Goldberg Tener Clinic will map out the recovery plan but the patient must consistently follow the plan given. In general, patients with chronic health issues who adhere to their program carefully will require 3-6 months to begin observing improvements. It is our goal to help each patient recover their health in as short a time as possible. Health has to be regained in accordance with physiological laws and in long term chronic illness, a degree of patience is often required to reach the desired goal.
